Verizon iPhone Update: Special Event Planned by Verizon next week

Consumer electronics Show is in full swing these days and all the major tech giants are launching their latest products and announcing their future plans. Verizon, one of the biggest cellphone service providers in U.S has been in the speculation news recently because of a Verizon based iPhone launch. So continuing this speculation spree, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg’s gave a keynote on Consumer electronics Show but didn’t say anything clearly about Verizon’s iPhone. But on Friday, Verizon sent an electric jolt throughout the tech industry with an announcement that they are staging a full fledge media event on Tuesday.

The event, which is scheduled to happen on January 11 in New York, is what according to many is the long awaited and widely rumored official unveiling of Verizon based iPhone.

Wall Street Journal today confirmed this press event announcement citing a source that is very much familiar with this Verizon’s event. Multitude of media outlets including Fortune have already confirmed that iPhone would be coming to Verizon’s network in first quarter of 2011 but surprisingly so far both Apple and Verizon have stayed mum about their launch plans.

This particular move will end the iPhone tie up with its exclusive AT&T carrier. Both Apple and Verizon have deepened their relationship over the last year. In October, Verizon started selling Apple’s Tablet device iPad in all of its retail stores and also offered a wireless plan for the users of device.

So let’s see, how this upcoming Verizon’s event turn out to be and whether it will turn out to be a doomsday for AT&T or not.
