Beginner Tip: How To determine the iOS software and Baseband versions

Today’s How To tip is basically for the beginners and for all users who have recently got hold of an iPhone or an iPad as a birthday gift. So if you are lucky enough to get a new iDevice, you must be interested in either Jailbreaking or to unlock your iPhone or iPod Touch, but to do this unlocking or Jailbreaking, you must know what version of iOS firmware you are running on or what is the Baseband of your iPhone.
Jailbreaking an Apple iDevice sometimes become a cumbersome task because certain Jailbreak methods created by the developers work only with certain kind of software versions on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Moreover, some unlocks can only work with certain kind of modem firmware. So if you want to check compatibility of your device with the Jailbreaking method then follow these simple steps:
To find out about your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch version of software or the Modem version on your iPhone do this:
- Tap the ‘Settings’ icon on your Homescreen
- Tap the General Tab
- Tap ‘About’
Now at the bottom of the ‘About’ Tab screen, you will be able to see the version of your device software in bold. You should note down that version and it will be like 4.2.1 or 4.0.1.
Scrolling down to the very bottom of the About Page, you will see the Modem firmware that is normally called as Baseband. You should note it down as it will help you in jailbreaking your iPhone.
